Martin Abrams is Executive Director of the Centre for Information Policy Leadership at Hunton & Williams LLP, a global privacy and information security think tank, and an advisor to the Business Forum for Consumer Privacy. Mr. Abrams brings more than 30 years’ experience as a policy innovator to the Centre, where he pursues practical solutions to privacy and security problems. He is a leading theorist on global transfers of data based on accountability, and has led the movement in the US to adopt harms based approaches to privacy. He was a leader in developing layered privacy notices, and is currently working to bridge cultural differences in privacy. Mr. Abrams has led privacy programs on five continents, and is part of the APEC Data Privacy Subgroup.

As Oracle’s Vice President of Global Public policy, Mr. Alhadeff is responsible for coordinating and managing Oracle’s international and Internet-related policy issues.

As Chief Privacy Officer (CPO), Mr. Alhadeff oversees Oracle’s privacy program to ensure protection of personal information across all Oracle operations and product areas.

In addition to his role at Oracle, Mr. Alhadeff serves a prominent role in several influential international organizations dedicated to Internet policy, security and privacy. Mr Alhadeff serves as the BIAC Chair to the OECD ICCP Committee, head of industry delegation to the OECD Security Steering Group, and a Vice Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce’s Electronic Business and Information Technology Committee. In the US, Mr. Alhadeff chairs the Information Technology Committee for the US India Business Council, TechAmerica’s India Committee and the Government Affairs Committee for the Software and Information Industry Association. Mr. Alhadeff also co-chairs the USCIB’s Information Policy Committee and EABC’s Privacy and Data Security working group. Mr. Alhadeff is also the Chair of the US Malaysia Business Council, co-Chair of the US-ASEAN Business Council’s Technology Committee and serves on the NCAPEC Board. Mr Alhadeff also serves on the advisory boards of the DSCI, Wiredkids.org and serves as chair of The Privacy Projects.

Prior to joining Oracle, Mr. Alhadeff was General Counsel and Vice President for Electronic Commerce for the US Council for International Business (USCIB) in New York. Alhadeff holds and M.B.A. in management and information systems from New York University, Leonard N. Stern School of Business and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and a B.A. from Oberlin College.

Applied PbD for the Smart Grid (Jerusalem, 2010)

Ken Anderson is Assistant Commissioner (Privacy) at the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario (IPC). In addition, Ken is Director of Professional Services which includes responsibility for the Legal Department. Pursuant to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Ken was delegated the responsibility for implementation of PHIPA within the IPC in April of 2004.

Prior to his appointment to his current position, Ken led the administrative tribunal division both as Director of Appeals and as Assistant Commissioner (Access).

Ken began his career in litigation quickly developing a practice in the administrative law area. He was later appointed Commissioner of Legal Services for Halton Regional Municipality, and then for the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth. Ken also taught privacy law at the University of Ottawa law school for three years.

Ken received his law degree from the University of Western Ontario, as well as a degree in business administration from the Ivey School at the University of Western Ontario.

Ken is a frequent speaker on access & privacy issues.

Brian Beamish is the Assistant Commissioner (Access) for the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario. He directs the IPC’s Tribunal Services Division which is responsible for resolving access to information appeals and privacy complaints under the provincial and municipal freedom of information acts and complaints under the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Brian joined the IPC as Director of Policy and Compliance in 1999. Previously, he held a number of positions in the Ontario Public Services, particularly with the Ministries of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services.

A graduate of the University of Toronto Law School, Brian is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Microsoft and the Identity Metasystem (Toronto, 2009)

Dr. Stefan Brands is a Principal Architect in Microsoft’s Identity & Security Division in Redmond. In this capacity he contributes broadly to the company’s technical and strategic efforts relating to identity, privacy, and security. Stefan joined Microsoft in February 2008 following the company’s acquisition of Credentica. Stefan is also an Adjunct Professor in cryptography at McGill University, serves on the advisory board of public interest research center EPIC, and has served on the external advisory board of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Prior to joining Microsoft, Stefan worked at e-cash pioneer DigiCash, at Zero-Knowledge Systems (privacy technology), and at Credentica (user-centric identity technology). Stefan is the author of a book on user-centric identity via minimal disclosure tokens, published in 2000 by The MIT Press and freely available as a download from www.credentica.com/the_mit_pressbook.php.

Trust & Privacy in the Future Internet: A research perspective (Madrid, 2009)

Dr. Jacques Bus studied Mathematics at the University of Amsterdam and obtained his PhD with a thesis in Numerical Mathematics. He worked as a researcher at CWI (Amsterdam) for 15 years. In 1988 he joined the European Commission services and has been working in several jobs in the Esprit and ICT research programmes.

From March 2004 he has taken responsibility for the unit Trust and Security in the ICT Programme, which includes Security of Network and Service infrastructures, Critical Information Infrastructure Protection, Identity and Privacy management, and enabling technologies for trust and security.

Respect by Design (Toronto, 2010)

Professor L. Jean Camp is the author of Trust and Risk in Internet Commerce (MIT Press), Economics of Identity Theft (Springer) and the editor of Economics of Information Security (Kluwer Academic). She has authored over one hundred works, including seventy peer-reviewed works and eighteen book chapters. In addition to presentations at peer-reviewed venues, she has made scores of invited presentations on four continents. Her service has included the Board of Directors of Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, the Board of Governors of the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology, Senior Member of the IEEE, and longstanding member of the USACM. Smart Grid Privacy: The Time to Act is Now (Jerusalem, 2010)

Dr. Ann Cavoukian is recognized as one of the leading privacy experts in the world. An avowed believer in the role that technology can play in protecting privacy, Dr. Cavoukian’s leadership has seen her office develop a number of tools and procedures to ensure that privacy is protected in Ontario, and around the world. Dr. Cavoukian is Ontario’s first Information & Privacy Commissioner to be re-appointed for an unprecedented third term. Initially appointed in 1997, her role in overseeing the operations of the freedom of information and privacy laws in Canada’s most populous province has been extended to 2014. Like the Auditor General, she serves as an Officer of the Legislature, independent of the government of the day. Dr. Cavoukian also serves as the Chair of the Identity, Privacy and Security Institute at the University of Toronto, Canada.

Noted for her seminal work on Privacy Enhancing Technologies in 1995, her mantra of “Privacy by Design” seeks to embed privacy into the design specifications of technology, thereby achieving the strongest protections.

Dr. Cavoukian’s published works include Who Knows: Safeguarding Your Privacy in a Networked World (1997), written with Don Tapscott, The Privacy Payoff: How Successful Businesses Build Customer Trust (2002), written with Tyler Hamilton, and Privacy by Design…Take the Challenge (2009), an anthology of PbD Papers produced by the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner.

His Certifications include Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC)

He has been engaged to offer advisory services to clients in different sectors in Mexico, Central and South America.
His additional activities include membership in ISACA, ALAPSI, and ISC. In addition, he is part of the editorial council of the magazine Information Week Mexico.

Currently, he is responsible for different IT related services within the Firm and is a prominent participant with the information security service line.
